Résumé

Cet article examine la contribution des artistes plasticiens camerounais à la résilience face à la Covid-19 à partir des œuvres produites au cours de l’année 2020. L’on a effectué une analyse qualitative des œuvres, traitant de la covid-19, réalisées par un échantillon d’artistes camerounais représentant les sensibilités d’expressions plastiques (dessin, peinture, installation, performance) et précurseur de la lutte contre le Coronavirus. Cette recherche s’appuie sur l’exploitation des sources écrites, iconographiques, internet et documentaires. Les données récoltées ont fait l’objet d’analyse et d’interprétation à partir des approches en psychologie de l’art, sociologie de l’art, iconographique et iconologique. La contribution des artistes plasticiens à la résilience face à la Covid-19 se manifeste par leur engagement social, une continuité des activités de création artistique pendant la pandémie avec pour sujet principal le Coronavirus. Les dessins, les peintures, les installations ou les performances proposés par les plasticiens camerounais avaient pour objectif d’informer et éduquer, de questionner la perception, de représenter l’ambiance des populations et de décrisper l’atmosphère qui prévalait. En affrontant la peur, l’immobilisme et la fatalité, les œuvres réalisées proposent une thérapie nourrie de générosité, d’humanisme et d’espoir.

Abstract

This article examines the contribution of Cameroonian visual artists to resilience in the face of Covid-19, based on works produced during the year 2020. A qualitative analysis was carried out of the works dealing with Covid-19, produced by a sample of Cameroonian artists representing a range of artistic expressions (drawing, painting, installation, performance) and pioneers in the fight against the Coronavirus. This research is based on the exploitation of written, iconographic, internet and documentary sources. The data collected was analysed and interpreted using approaches based on art psychology, art sociology, iconography and iconology. The contribution of visual artists to resilience in the face of Covid-19 can be seen in their social commitment, a continuity of artistic creation activities during the pandemic, with the Coronavirus as the main subject. The drawings, paintings, installations and performances put forward by Cameroonian visual artists were intended to inform, to question perception, to represent the mood of the people and to lighten the prevailing atmosphere. By confronting fear, immobility and fatalism, the works produced offer a therapy nourished by generosity, humanism and hope.
